Crystal has been dancing for 12 years and is very well known in the industry.
Inspiration struck after seeing a performance at a hen party and she immediately started classes the very next week. Her love for this dance and passion for teaching this ancient art outweighed the joy of her job and she took the plunge 6 years ago to quit her job at Deloite Forensic Division and danced her way to success.
Her passion lies in the ability of this dance to allow ladies to value and appreciate their bodies and bring out their inner diva. Through belly dance, she has come into contact with many women from varying walks of life, different shapes, sizes, ages all joining for their own personal reasons but discovering something that has enriched their lives forever! “I consider myself truly blessed knowing that I can help women on this journey of discovering their true strength”, she says.
Crystal always aims to provide opportunities for her +/- 60 students to share their confidence and love for dance by performing at events and parties all across the county. Growing up in Bonteheuwel on the Cape Flats she also firmly believes in giving back to the community. She shares her passion by performing at various charity organisations as well as hosting various drives and fundraisers, one of them was a food drive in which enough resources were collected to provide a much needed sandwiches every Thursday to the children of St Augustine for the next 3 months. Some of her most exciting performances to date include Expresso show SABC 1’s Selematunzi Arabian Night’s party (Jay Z's 2nd party in CT which was attended by Lil Wayne, Virgin Airlines CEO to name but a few), Kuier Magazine Annual Women's day Gala Dinner, The V&A waterfront’s International Oriental Festival, International Kite Festival, Annual Community Chest Carnival, Cape Town Carnival 2012, 2013 & 2014 parade as well as performing for the Prince of Saudi Arabia on his visit to South Africa.
'We as woman lead very demanding lives and I wanted to create a place where woman can come and reconnect with themselves. i started this school because of my believe in the power of this dance, it heals it builds it restores. This is more than just a job to me this is my life; and Hip Fusion is a place where friendships are formed, confidence restored and support and love felt. Besides there is nothing more fulfilling seeing my students transform into a self-assured confident woman….. From a shy student to a phenomenal fabulous confident diva!” i love to perform, i come alive when i hear that first drum beat and that note hits me; but what i feel when i teach that hits me straight in the heart and soul of who i am. To be able to share and connect with women by giving them the power of this dance that is the core of who i am!! I want to be able to touch and change as many lives one hip drop at a time.'
Crystal Simpson is living proof that finding a job you love can lead to both professional and personal fulfilment.. live the job you love…
